The New York Terminal District which encompasses all CSX New York City trackage, CSX Croton West Yard in Croton-On-Hudson, New York, and all running over MTA Metro North Railroad, is included as part of the Hudson Sub.

Metro North Territory

Photographed and added Tuesday, March 24, and Wednesday, March 25.

CSX train Q430-24 heading from Oakpoint Yard, in New York City, to Selkirk yard, experienced problems at Beacon, New York prior to rush hour. Metro North HTS-3 crew, with the 106, and the CSX crew worked together to shift the train over from Track 2, to Track 3.

The train was highly visible to the morning commuters, as well as railfans that had learned of the trains presense.

Here, the train is seen south of The Beacon Line Bridge (former Conrail Maybrook Line) north through CP 58, to Beacon station.

In the afternoon, the head 22 cars were taken to Poughkeepsie, then the lite power returned south to Beacon, put a cripple on The Price Brothers siding, and then took the remaining 59 cars north to Poughkeepsie, tied the 22 cars back onto the head end, and headed north to Hyde Park, and points north as the sun was preparing to retire for the day.

While in Poughkeepsie, the train caught the attention of many regular people enjoying the day along the river at Marist College, which is great, because people didn't know that freight trains even ran on "this side" of the river. Go figure.

It was for one day, the way it should be, Hudson Freight operating in daylight, like a normal railroad.

CSXT train Q701-30 had tied down ahead of Q431-30 at Rhinecliff, New York after 0300 after missing the 0300 window 15 miles to the south on Metro North Railroad at Poughkeepsie. A daylight run was allowed to come south with 25 cars, seen at MP 43, Camp Smith, New York.

After waking up after a late night, I quickly learned that Q431-06 had tied down in Croton West Yard. B949-07 was to recrew the train, and bring it south to Oakpoint Yard in The Bronx.

After just reaching Philipse Manor in time, a mad dash was made to Manhattan to photograph The New Yankee Stadium viewed from Harlem.

Look at the photos from Philipse Manor, and you'll see that it almost didn't happen due to a southbound Amtrak on Track 2.

A unusually warm February day made for great photography, and great music on the radio. You know it's warm when guys are playing basketball in Harlem. Two fellow photographers were at Scarborough, and my father watched the train in Yonkers.

I'm sure daylight freight on The Hudson turned heads from fishermen, to commuters.

To railfan dismay, we learned today, of all days, that CSXT locomotive 8844, has been repainted into Dark Future scheme. This unit was formerly in Conrail paint. This leaves just a lone unit, CSXT 8840, still in Conrail Quality paint, serving The Hudson Subdivision New York Terminal district.

Around 2pm, I recieved a call from Josh Weis (Urban Transit Club NY) that Q701 had tied down in Croton earlier in the morning, and a recrew was already at Croton awaiting Car Dept. Funny thing is, I have 3 people to harass for not calling me much earlier, since I am the one normally making the calls, and doing the favors. This gave me ample time to set up for rare daylight freight on The Hudson. In addition, road trains that are rarely brought south in daylight always take place in the morning, so this was my opportunity to photograph where sunlight never hits in the morning. Riverdale, in The Bronx borough of New York City, I thought. Well, how about from New Jersey? Here are the results....

CSX Local B749 has just picked up a cut of cars from Metro Enviro in Croton, NY. Notice on the left side of the photo, the construction of a new road to access Senasqua Park and in turn, CSX Croton West Yard. The tunnel under CP 35 has been closed, and Brook St. is the only access.
