Notable Locations in New York City
 
The Empire/Spuytun Duyvil Bridge
2 TRACKS/1 TRACK
 
UTILIZED BY AMTRAK
 
Stretches from Pennsylvania Station in
Manhattan to the connection with Metro North
at CP 12 at Spuyten Duyvil, in the Bronx. 95%
of this trackage is within the island of Manhattan.
After diverging from Metro North, trains cross
Spuyten Duyvil Bridge, spanning the Harlem River,
into Manhattan. At Inwood, double track begins
southbound. Trains pass by Inwood Park, Fort
Washington Park, Riverbank State Park, and
Grants Tomb. The Henry Hudson Parkway
parallels near Riverbank State Park. South of
125th Street, the track goes below Riverside Park.
 
 
Hell Gate Bridge

Hell Gate stretches from just South of Oakpoint
Yard in The Bronx, to Astoria, Queens.
 
Viewable from The Triboro bridge, Randalls Island,
and Astoria.
 
The bridge has two tracks for Amtrak, and one for
freight usage. One track has been torn up, as four
was the prior.
 
(The most beautiful bridge you could witness.)
 
Pelham Bay Bridge (AMTRAK)

(B750 and rail trains)
 
Located wholly within the borough of The Bronx,
adjacent to Shore Road, near Pelham Bay Park.
Bordered by CO-OP CITY and Pelham Bay Park,
the drawbridge spans the Hutchinson River, and
opens a couple of times a day for boats such as
The Coral Queen.
 
Sunnyside Yard
 
Located in Sunnyside, Queens, this yard is
used by Amtrak to service it's trains before
departure. Amtrak trains to/from Hell Gate
pass through the yard, as well as LIRR.
 
(Take subways to Queens Blvd.)
Bordered by Queens Blvd., Skillman, Honeywell St.

instances however, Grand Central has been used for Amtrak
Empire Service trains, due to the Spuyten Duyvil bridge
being struck by boats.
 
A Bit of History:
 
There is a plaque in Vanderbilt Hall, recognizing Jacqueline
Kennedy Onassis, who saved the terminal from Demolition.
 
Oct 1, 1998 marked the completion of the renovation of GCT.

5-21 run throughs; 1-12 AMTK/NJ TRANSIT,
13-21 LIRR. Middle tracks are usually shared.
